Second Edition Book Description:

In retrospect, it might not have been the wisest idea to hand in my v-card to a hot librarian I picked up at my mother’s cocktail party.

In my defense, the man has a French accent, gray hair, and knows a lot about books. The cards were really stacked against me making good choices, folks.

I was probably naïve to expect a call after that, but when he didn’t, it hurt to accept he didn’t feel that same connection I did.

If that isn’t a sign you need to make a change, I don’t know what is. Too bad the “change” I get is six months in a remote French chateau, working as a nanny to an adorable little girl. Who happens to be the daughter of the single dad I had sex with in a grocery store parking lot.

Ellis Delvaux has made it clear he isn’t interested in a relationship. Unfortunately, when you’re a hopeless romantic spending that much time with someone you’re attracted to, in what might be the most beautiful place on the planet, things happen.

And sometimes, to avoid those things happening, you come up with a list of rules to facilitate six-months of secret, no strings attached sex with a man who is as off-limits as it gets.

What could go wrong?

“I cannot imagine how a beautiful young woman would sign up for a more with a single father librarian who hasn’t gone to the gym in a year and a half, has enough emotional baggage to fill the luggage claim at JFK and whose career is hanging on by a thread.”

Second Edition Review:

Jo Sutton is not happy. She’s been the perfect daughter, student, perfect everything her whole life, yet something is missing. When she decides to take a year off from school, she never imagined it would lead to losing her virginity, moving to France, and finding love.

I loved Ellis and Jo’s meet cute – Meeting in a library (even though it was private) was the perfect start for them. I could relate to Jo feeling unhappy with her life and appreciated that Cleo let Jo grab the reigns from the beginning.

Now let’s talk a little about Ellis.

1. He’s French 2. He has such a dirty mouth 🤭and 3. Ellis has a bit of a dominant side. He also calls Jo his mon amour *swoon*. But not all my thoughts are positive about our MMC. He’s also super thickheaded and keeps throwing up walls as if trusting someone might make him implode.

Aside from our main characters, I was very grateful for the French-to-English translations as footnotes. Not having to flip to the front or back of the book for a glossary makes such a quality of life difference to me.

Additionally, Cleo’s National Treasure reference got such a smile out of me – Nicolas Cage is one of my favorite actors. Another part of the story that I adored was the love notes written by Luc, a donor to the university Ellis works for, and how the notes came full circle at the end.

So, what didn’t i like? Ellis’ ex-wife. Read the book and you’ll find out just how terrible she is. Another thing I’m not a fan of? Book pirates. Thanks to those who uploaded Second Edition to pirating sites, Cleo has changed her ARC process. I will miss ARC reading for you, Cleo!

Second Edition is perfect for readers who enjoy cottagecore vibes, a relationship that might cost our MMC his job, and a French MMC who wants to dominate in the bedroom and basic growls “mine” whenever he thinks of another man in the vicinity of his woman.

Thank you to Cleo White for the ARC.
